Celebrate summer with a market fair, crafts, dancing and games

Step back in time as the Manor of Avoncroft celebrates a Medieval May Day. Meet the villagers and learn about everyday medieval life as Summer is celebrated with a market fair, authentic crafts, dancing and games.

Which villager will be crowned the Queen of May? Who will be the best dancer around the Maypole? Which brave team will survive the ruthless medieval football tournament? Head to Avoncroft for some May Day merriment!

Re-enactments will be provided by Stronghold Re-enactment. The museum buildings, tearooms and shop will be open as usual.


Timetable: 

  • 12pm Guided tour of the market and faire
  • 1pm Physical games – football, tug of war, or similar –  something different each day
  • 2pm Election of May Queen followed by Maypole dancing
  • 3pm Archery contest

Book your tickets online in advance and enjoy a 10% discount compared to on-the-door prices. On-the-door tickets are limited and subject to availability. Members have no need to pre book - just bring a valid membership card. Family tickets available.
