From global smash-hits to brand new productions, there’s no shortage of great musicals coming to the region next year. Here’s our selection of 26 for 2026...

ANNIE

Set in 1930s New York, brave young Annie is forced to live a life of misery at Miss Hannigan’s orphanage. Her luck soon changes when she’s chosen to spend a fairytale Christmas with famous billionaire, Oliver Warbucks. Meanwhile, spiteful Miss Hannigan has other ideas and hatches a plan to spoil Annie’s search for her true family…

With its Tony® award-winning book and score, including the unforgettable songs It’s The Hard-Knock Life, Easy Street, I Don’t Need Anything But You and Tomorrow.

BARNUM: THE CIRCUS MUSICAL

West End favourite and TV star Lee Mead takes centre stage as the legendary 19th century showman P.T. Barnum in a new staging telling the story of The World's Greatest Showman.

An ensemble cast of over 20 actor-musicians will play 150 instruments, perform acrobats and circus acts. Audiences are certain to delight at every sight, wonder and miracle that the name Barnum stands for.

Barnum first took the UK by storm when it played the London Palladium, with Michael Crawford making theatrical history with a death-defying nightly tightrope walk across the stage. And now, Lee Mead steps into Barnum’s shoes and on to the tightrope!

BLOOD BROTHERS

Although it’s effectively a class-driven ‘scouse melodrama’, to describe Blood Brothers as such is to greatly underestimate the emotional response it produces within its audience.

The show features adult actors playing children, a narrator who wanders through the scenes with warnings of impending doom, a good helping of sharp social awareness to counteract the sticky sentimentality, and a raft of much-loved musical numbers, including Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe, and the emotionally charged Tell Me It’s Not True.

Musical theatre veteran Vivienne Carlyle stars as Mrs Johnstone.

CATS

A spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s multi award-winning musical Cats is coming to Birmingham Hippodrome.

From Euston station to Victoria Grove, the strays and rebels of London gather under the Jellicle moon in the hope they’ll be the chosen one. And each of them asks, because each of them dares, who will it be?

Based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, and with a legendary score which inspired generations featuring, Old Deuteronomy, Macavity: The Mystery Cat, Jellicle Ball and the chart-topping hit Memory, this brand-new production of Cats, directed and choreographed by Drew McOnie arrives in October 2026 for two weeks only.

DIRTY DANCING

DISENCHANTED!

Disenchanted! is the hilarious hit musical with more bite, more sass, and zero damsels in distress.

FRIENDS! THE MUSICAL PARODY

Friends may have finished 21 years ago, but the now-legendary TV show continues to draw an audience whenever and wherever it’s repeated. So there’s little wonder that somebody somewhere decided a stage version would be a good idea.

Lovingly lampooning the hit sitcom, the production is a good-hearted romp through the series’ most memorable moments - but with the addition of some high-energy song & dance routines just for good measure.

I'M EVERY WOMAN

The boys are back as the original Tony®-winning sensation returns for its 20th Anniversary Tour.

KARATE KID THE MUSICAL

LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL

The iconic international West End and Broadway smash hit musical comedy Legally Blonde The Musical is back in fashion with a huge new production.

This ultimate feel-good rom-com, based on the award-winning film starring Reese Witherspoon, follows Elle Woods on her transformation from It girl fashionista to legal ace at Harvard Law School, all in the name of love.

Elle must prove she is more than blonde ambition, swap the changing rooms for the courtroom and learn that ‘being true to yourself never goes out of style.’

MAMMA MIA!

This smash-hit musical tells a story of love, friendship and identity through the timeless songs of ABBA.

MATILDA THE MUSICAL

MEAN GIRLS

Winner of Best New Musical (WhatsOnStage Awards) and direct from the West End, Mean Girls is the hilarious smash-hit musical comedy from an award-winning creative team including writer Tina Fey (30 Rock), composer Jeff Richmond (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and director and choreographer Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon).

Meet The Plastics – Regina, Gretchen and Karen. They rule North Shore High and will burn anyone who gets in their way. Home-schooled Cady Heron may think she knows a thing or two about survival of the fittest thanks to her zoologist parents, but high school is a whole new level of savage. MISS SAIGON

In the last days of the Vietnam War, 17 year-old Kim is forced to work in a Saigon bar run by a notorious character known as The Engineer. There she meets and falls in love with an American GI named Chris but they are torn apart by the fall of Saigon. For 3 years Kim goes on an epic journey of survival to find her way back to Chris, who has no idea he’s fathered a son.

The soaring score features hit songs including; The Heat is On, The Movie in My Mind, Last Night of the World and The American Dream.

MRS DOUBTFIRE

Beloved Scottish nanny Euphegenia Doubtfire will be packing up her suitcase and hitting the road in 2026, as her West End and Broadway musical Mrs. Doubtfire tours the UK for the first time - and it's coming to Birmingham Hippodrome!

A hilarious and heartfelt story about holding onto your loved ones against all odds, Mrs. Doubtfire is the musical comedy we need right now.

Out-of-work actor Daniel will do anything for his kids. After losing custody in a messy divorce, he creates the alter ego of Scottish nanny Euphegenia Doubtfire in a desperate attempt to stay in their lives. As his new character takes on a life of its own, Mrs. Doubtfire teaches Daniel more than he bargained for about how to be a father.

The UK and Ireland tour of Mrs. Doubtfire will star Gabriel Vick as Daniel Hillard following his acclaimed performances in the West End.

ROALD DAHL'S THE ENORMOUS CRCODILE

The Enormous Crocodile is weaving his way through the jungle to the Midlands in search of delicious little fingers and squidgy podgy knees…

Only the other jungle creatures can foil his secret plans and clever tricks, but they’re going to have to find a large amount of courage to stop this greedy brute.

This mischievous musical based on Roald Dahl’s snappy book has toe-tapping tunes, rib-tickling lyrics and features a menagerie of puppets.

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW

Hook up your fishnets, tighten your corsets and prepare to ‘do The Time Warp again’ - The Rocky Horror Show is returning to the Midlands!

Richard O Brien’s cult production tells the tale of the straight-laced Brad and the deliciously corruptible Janet, who arrive at the castle of the alien transvestite Frank N Furter and witness the birth of the monster, Rocky.

Along the way, they take the audience through a selection of love-’em-or-loathe-’em musical numbers, including Damn It Janet, Sweet Transvestite, and The Time Warp. Great fun’s a guarantee - particularly if you get into the spirit of things and attend the show dressed in your very best stockings & suspenders (as many patrons do)!

SUNNY AFTERNOON

This clever homage to Swinging ’60s superstars The Kinks has been wowing audiences and critics in equal measure since opening in the West End in 2014 - so much so, in fact, that it won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical.

Adapted from Joe Penhall’s book, with an original story by Kinks guitarist, vocalist & songwriter Ray Davies, it features plenty of the band’s best-known tunes, including iconic tracks You Really Got Me, Waterloo Sunset, Dedicated Follower Of Fashion, All Day And All Of The Night and Lola.
