The festive season is right around the corner and so are many festive events, including local Christmas lights switch ons. Here are those taking place in Shropshire this year.
Shrewsbury | Wednesday 19 November | 4.30pm - 7.30pm
Visit The Square as Shrewsbury Town Council flip the switch and begin the count down to Christmas.
Music and activities across the town will be returning, with activities kicking off around 4.30pm. The lights will be switched on at 6.30pm.
Oswestry - Bailey Head | Thursday 20 November | from 4pm
Featuring carols, festive fun, winter warming food and drink, and a special guest.
The light switch on will be at 6.30pm.
Newport | Saturday 22 November | 10am - 7pm
This year, Newport’s Christmas Lights Switch-On has been transformed into a full-day celebration of festive fun for the whole family.
Market stalls will be open from 10am and live stage performances will take place from 12pm - 6.45pm. The all important lights switch on will take place at 6pm - joined by the cast of Nova Panto.
The event will also feature a funfair and rides, a lantern parade, a giant inflatable snow globe, Santa's grotto (open from 10am - 4pm), and the chance to meet a donkey.

Ludlow Winter Festival | Friday 28 - Sunday 30 November
The Ludlow Winter Festival, held on the last full weekend of November, brings festive cheer to the town with a magical blend of events and activities.
Highlights include a visit from Santa, live music, local performances, poetry readings, and scenic trails, all culminating in the much-anticipated Christmas light switch-on.
This collaborative event, organised by local groups, transforms Ludlow into a winter wonderland.
Ironbridge | Saturday 29 November - 1pm - 7pm
Visit Ironbridge for a festive evening filled with twinkling lights, local vendors, and holiday cheer at the lights switch on event at Market Stall.
Shifnal | Saturday 29 November | 5pm - 7pm
Featuring Santa's Grotto, street entertainment and Mickie and Minnie Mouse photo opportunities.
Santa, Elf, Mayor of Shifnal and carnival royalty will turn on the lights at 6.45pm.
Madeley Centre | Saturday 29 November | 9am - 5pm
Featuring a Christmas street market, activities, Santa’s grotto, lantern parade and, of course, the grand lights switch-on.
Wellington - Market Square | Saturday 29 November | 5pm
Lighting up the town in Market Square, the light switch on is one of Wellington's most popular event, guaranteed to put you in the Christmas spirit.
The lights will be switched on at 5pm.
Broseley - High Street | Saturday 29 November | 1pm - 8pm
The event, as well as the lights switch on, will include indoor craft stalls, school choirs, street food, a pipe band, a Samba band, Dobsons fun fair, and an appearance from Santa.
Oakengates - Market Street | Saturday 29 November | 2pm - 7pm
Get ready to kick off the festive season in style as Oakengates comes alive with the magic of Christmas.
