Residents are being encouraged to get creative and take part in a series of community lantern-making workshops ahead of the much-loved Telford Lantern Parade this November as part of Telford Day.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Ironbridge Gorge being designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986.
Hosted as part of the annual celebration, the workshops give families the opportunity to design and decorate their own lanterns before joining hundreds of participants at the spectacular parade on Sunday 29 November. The parade will begin at 6pm, creating a beautiful display of light through Dale End Park, Ironbridge Gorge as we celebrate the spirit of Telford.
With the first workshops taking place next week, organisers are urging families to book now and secure their place.
Designed for families with children aged five and over, the workshops offer a fun and affordable way to get involved in one of Telford's most colourful community events. Children must be accompanied by an adult, with families working together to create their lanterns.
Once completed, lanterns will be stored by the organisers and returned in time for participants to carry them during the parade.
Each workshop lasts approximately 2.5 hours, and all materials are provided. Activities involve glue and other craft materials, so suitable clothing is recommended. Aprons will be available.
Workshop places cost just £3 per child.
