This week, Telford & Wrekin Council proudly marked the second anniversary of the borough’s first Models for Heroes group, which launched at Leegomery Community Centre in October 2023.

Since then, the initiative has grown into a thriving network of support for Armed Forces veterans and ex-Emergency Services personnel across the borough.

From its beginnings in Leegomery, the programme has expanded to include regular sessions at St Georges and a newly formed group at The Hub on the Hill in Sutton Hill too. The groups now meet:

- On the first and third Tuesday of each month at Leegomery Community Centre
- On the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Parish Centre St Georges
- On the first and third Wednesday of each month at The Hub on the Hill, Sutton Hill

These sessions are made possible through the support of local borough councillors, Town and Parish Councils, and funding from the Councillors’ Pride Fund.

The Models for Heroes sessions are part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s ongoing commitment to supporting Armed Forces personnel, veterans and their families through the Armed Forces Covenant. This includes a wide range of initiatives such as the dedicated Christopher Turley Armed Forces Community Hub in Dawley which is run in partnership with Great Dawley Town Council and Telford Mind, regular Armed Forces Community Cafés around the borough, signposting to services, and dedicated support for housing, employment and wellbeing, plus Craft and Sew groups, Armed Forces Community Art Classes and a monthly Armed Forces Community Brunch.
