Shrewsbury's young readers are invited to a special day in The Square as Shrewsbury's Big Read takes place on Saturday 25 July.

Taking place from 10.30am to 2.30pm, the event celebrates Go All In, the National Year of Reading 2026 - and everyone is welcome to drop in, free of charge.

Events include:
Draw It, Tell It with Dapo Adeola 
Dapo Adeola, named Illustrator of the Year at the 2022 British Book Awards, will lead lively drawing and story sessions for younger children aged 3 and up. 

Read, Ask, Chat with Sophie Kirtley  
Sophie Kirtley, author of The Wild Way Home and The Way to Impossible Island, will host readings and author Q&As for children aged 7 and up.

The National Year of Reading 2026 is a UK-wide campaign designed to help more people rediscover the joy of reading. A Department for Education initiative supported by more than 900 partners, ‘Go All In’ brings reading events to communities nationwide. This event is supported by the Shrewsbury Big Town Plan Partnership.
