The Shropshire Young Curators return to present their pick of films at four independent cinemas, this November.
Tom Morris, 20, from Shrewsbury, will introduce a special Remembrance Day screening of British indie comedy, Chicken Town on 8 November, at The Picture House, Ludlow Assembly Rooms. This launches a new season of collaboration between talented young locals and Shropshire Independent Cinema (SIC), supported by Film Hub Midlands..
Formed earlier in 2025, Shropshire Independent Cinema brings together Ludlow Picture House, The Old Market Hall in Shrewsbury, Wem Cinema and The Wellington Orbit to strengthen local cinema culture and thoughtfully curate experiences for the region’s audiences.
Chicken Town, selected by Jess Laurie at Ludlow Picture House and promoted by Young Curators Tom Morris and Joe Williams, is directed by Richard Bracewell and set in rural Lincolnshire. “It’s a British twist on the American indie ‘stoner film’— zany and heartfelt,” said Laurie. “We chose it for Remembrance Day for its hopeful look at connection and community across generations - themes that resonate with Shropshire’s towns and villages.”
Also woven through Chicken Town are relatable issues of rural loneliness and boredom, experienced by young and old alike, across diverse backgrounds of class, race, and sexuality.
Tom and Joe will be trusted voices on what's on at the four independent cinemas this winter and New Year. They’ll present their Seasonal Picks on Socials and in-person at the cinemas, highlighting those films that they think are a ‘must-watch’ for local audiences.
Chicken Town, presented with the Shropshire Young Curators, shows at 2pm on Saturday 8 November at The Picture House at Ludlow Assembly Rooms. Tickets here.
