Lichfield Cathedral has released tickets for its Tower Tours this summer.
Visitors have two options to choose from, a full 90-minutes Rooftop Tour for the ultimate climb and city views or a 60-minute Climb on the Chime Tour - a lighter climb with just as much charm and views.
The 90-minute, guided Rooftop Tour takes you via the North West tower and up spiral staircases, through narrow passageways, and across hidden walkways above the South Transept and Nave. Heading on up the winding spiral staircase to the top of the tower where you wonder at the workmanship underneath the Central Spire and take in views from North, South, East and West. This tour includes access to rooftop spaces above the Nave of the Cathedral as well as the views from the tower.
The 60-minute Climb on the Chime guided tour takes on the same journey to the Central Spire, before heading back down, not forgetting to admire the wheel window in the South Transept that isn’t visible from the main part of the Cathedral.
Both tours include the Tower Room Experience where you can discover stories from the past, explore fascinating items from the history of the Cathedral including an exploded cannonball, and watch as the restoration of the Central Spire after the Civil War comes to life before your eyes.
