Lichfield Garrick Theatre has unveiled a new Creative Hub designed to expand its work with local communities, young people and theatre-makers.

Located close to the city-centre venue, the new facility provides dedicated space for rehearsals, workshops, classes, meetings and exhibitions. The hub includes an air-conditioned rehearsal studio with a dance floor, alongside meeting rooms that can be used by both professional productions and community groups.

The space is already playing a key role in the theatre’s programme, with rehearsals underway for this year’s festive productions, Robin Hood and A Shoddy Nativity. Following the success of the Garrick’s first home-produced musical, Disenchanted!, the venue also hopes to use the hub to develop and rehearse future productions.

The Creative Hub will serve as a new base for the popular Garrick Youth Theatre and will be used regularly by performing arts students from South Staffordshire College, creating additional opportunities for young people to develop their skills and creativity.

Daniel Buckroyd, Artistic Director and CEO of the Garrick, said: “Having this space means that we can both expand the opportunities we offer the communities we serve here in Staffordshire and play a bigger role in the creation of new works that will inspire and engage audiences in the years ahead.”

The theatre also plans to make the space available to local arts organisations, amateur dramatics groups, youth theatres, community groups and independent artists.
