The New Vic Theatre is inviting local people to become part of its Community Theatre Company for Gladstone Girls, a new play by Stoke-on-Trent-born Oscar winner Rachel Shenton.

Set in the heart of Stoke-on-Trent’s pottery industry during the early 1960s, Gladstone Girls tells the story of a group of women determined to preserve a treasured factory tradition. To help bring the production to life, the theatre is looking for adults aged 18 and over to take part in both on-stage and off-stage roles.

Those interested in performing can join the on-stage community company, helping to recreate the bustling working world of Gladstone Pottery. Previous acting experience is not required, although participants should feel comfortable performing in front of an audience.

The theatre is also keen to hear from people with experience of the ceramics industry, particularly those with skills in slide-on lithography, banding, stippling and hand-painted decoration. Members of the off-stage community company will help share their knowledge and expertise with the cast to ensure an authentic portrayal of pottery workers’ lives.
