One of the UK's fastest-growing sports is coming to Lichfield as Padel in Beacon Park officially opens on Thursday 30 July, bringing three new outdoor floodlit courts to the city's popular Beacon Park.

The new facility is part of Lichfield District Council's ongoing investment in the park, creating even more opportunities for residents and visitors to get active and enjoy the outdoors.

Owned by Lichfield District Council and managed by Active Lichfield District, the courts join a growing range of attractions at Beacon Park, including the recently opened Adventure Golf course, alongside established walking routes, children's play areas and the Pavilion café.

Councillor Andy Smith, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Major Projects at Lichfield District Council, said: "We're excited to welcome Padel in Beacon Park and introduce another fantastic way for people to enjoy being active outdoors.

"Padel has become one of the world's fastest-growing sports because it's fun, social and easy to learn, making it suitable for people of all ages and abilities. Whether you're picking up a racquet for the first time or already love the game, these fantastic new courts provide a brilliant place to play.

"Beacon Park is already one of our district's most popular destinations and Padel in Beacon Park gives people another reason to visit, spend time outdoors and enjoy everything the park and our city have to offer."

Combining elements of tennis and squash, padel is usually played in doubles and is known for its fast-paced, sociable nature. The sport has seen a huge rise in popularity across the UK in recent years, attracting players of all ages and experience levels.

The three courts will be open seven days a week and can be booked on a pay-as-you-go basis, with no membership required. Players can book 60-minute sessions, enjoy floodlit evening matches and gain access using a secure digital entry code through the Playtomic app.

Court hire costs £16 per hour during off-peak periods and £20 per hour at peak times, offering an affordable way to try the increasingly popular sport.

Located just a short walk from Lichfield city centre, the new venue also gives visitors the opportunity to combine a game with a day out exploring the city's shops, cafés, restaurants and attractions, including the historic Lichfield Cathedral.

Bookings can be made up to 14 days in advance through the Playtomic app.
