Stormtroopers, Jedi Knights, Time Lords and superheroes will once again descend on Lichfield this autumn as the popular Space Invasion event returns to The Hub at St Mary's.

Taking place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, the free family event will once again transform the city centre into a sci-fi spectacular, welcoming a host of costumed characters from the worlds of film and television.

Following the success of Space Invasion 2025, which attracted more than 3,000 visitors to The Hub across the weekend, organisers are promising another action-packed event for fans of all ages. Last year's event saw visitors enjoy light-sabre training, creative workshops, face painting and the chance to meet more than 25 costumed characters from franchises including Star Wars, Doctor Who and Marvel.

This year, visitors can expect to spot some familiar faces on the streets of Lichfield and in and around The Hub, including Imperial Stormtroopers, Darth Vader, Daleks, K9 and the iconic Ghostbusters car, Ecto-1.

Whether you're a young Padawan or simply young at heart, everyone is encouraged to get involved by dressing up as their favourite film, television or fantasy character. Children who arrive in costume can head to The Hub to receive a special treat.

Event organiser Simon Horton said: "May the force be with you all! As Stormtroopers and Daleks invade Lichfield, it's time to dig out your best sci-fi costume and join in the fun. And don't forget to pop into The Hub for a spot of Jedi training and Tardis spotting. Beam me up!"

Alongside the character appearances and cosplay fun, the weekend will feature a range of activities for visitors to enjoy. Aspiring Jedi can take part in lightsabre training, while sci-fi face painting will help transform visitors into their favourite characters. Guests can also enjoy galaxy-inspired sweet treats in The Hub's coffee shop and browse artist Lee Bradley's Toonverse Exhibition, featuring prints of popular Marvel and cartoon characters.

The event will also support two good causes, with collections taking place throughout the weekend for The Hub's community work and Elaine's Toy & Gift Appeal.

Entry is free, and visitors are encouraged to come along in costume and join the invasion when Space Invasion returns to The Hub this September. Find out more at thehubstmarys.co.uk.
