Singers, musicians, and word smiths are invited to submit their finest work for this year's L2F songwriting competition.
With support from Lichfield’s Duke Of York pub, there are two cash prizes for the winner and runner up, as well as performance opportunities at this year’s Folk on the Farm event on 17 September and as support for the critically lauded band False Lights at Lichfield Guildhall on Saturday 14 October, as part of this year’s L2F Festival.
Running since 2016, the competition is an important part of the L2F festival. The Lichfield Arts Song Writing Competition aims to support, encourage and develop new folk song writing talent. Prizes include cash awards of £100 for Best Overall Song, and £50 for the runner up. For the purposes of the competition, Lichfield Arts defines ‘folk’ in the widest sense of the genre, encompassing both traditional and contemporary styles.
Entries should be by either MP3 file attached to the entry form, or with a link to a soundcloud page. Songs should not be available for commercial or monetary gain, and can be sent in by either individual singers, or by groups.
A Lichfield Arts Spokesman said ‘The L2F song writing competition is a great opportunity for al creatives, it goes from strength to strength, and attracts increasingly high quality entries If you would like to enter, please see the rules and the entry form listed below. The songwriting team look forward to hearing your entries’
The closing date for the competition is Tuesday 15 August. Find out more at lichfieldarts.org.uk.
