Stoke-On-Trent’s The Potteries Centre have announced the return of the multi award-winning contemporary circus, Upswing, with their exciting mini-show, ‘Circus Throwdown’.
On Saturday 3 May between 11:30am -12:45pm and 2:00pm - 3:15pm, a trio of talented circus artists will show off their tricks with a set of performances ahead of the SHOWDOWN competition, giving the local community a taste of what’s to come.
Not only will visitors be able to watch the professionals battle for a spot in the new show, Upswing will give attendees an opportunity to discover their hidden talents in a free 45-minute acrobatic workshop following each performance.
The first workshop starts at 12:00pm, and the second takes place shortly after the 2:00pm performance. Participants will be able to learn basic solo and partner acrobatic skills from the pro’s, giving visitors a first-hand experience of the world of the circus in a fun, safe and supportive environment.
Circus Throwdown is a playful performance where three talented circus performers compete in a fun imitation of the SHOWDOWN competition, offering audiences a glimpse of the official tour finals at the New Vic Theatre from 8 - 10 May.
But that’s not all, in celebration of Upswing returning to The Potteries Centre, four lucky visitors will have the chance to win family tickets to one of Upswing’s incredible shows at the New Vic! To enter, visit @thepotteriescentre’s Instagram.
Amy Whittaker, Centre Manager at The Potteries Centre, said: “Following the success of Upswing’s workshops and performances last year, we are delighted to welcome them back! Circus Throwdown offers something truly unique – allowing individuals to not only witness jaw-dropping performances but also get involved themselves.”
Vicki Dela Amedume MBE, Artistic Director of Upswing, adds: “We are thrilled to return to The Potteries Centre, having had such an amazing turnout last year. We hope to see lots of new faces stepping into the spotlight and trying their hand at some circus tricks!”
The workshops are suitable for young people up to the age of 18. Tickets are free, but booking is required. To book your free ticket, visit eventbrite.co.uk.
