Music worlds will come together this autumn as the City of Stoke-on-Trent Symphony Orchestra (CSSO) teams up with two of the region’s most exciting singer-songwriters for a unique live performance.

Created in partnership with Honey Box, Hive Classics will see the orchestra collaborate with Julia Mosley and Hannah Sophie for a one-night-only concert at St Giles’ Church in Newcastle-under-Lyme on Saturday 21 November.

In a first for the orchestra, CSSO Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Joe Hearson has reimagined and orchestrated original songs by the two artists, transforming intimate tracks into brand-new arrangements for live performance.

The concert will feature Julia and Hannah performing their own music alongside a live string quartet, giving audiences the chance to hear these newly orchestrated versions for the very first time.

“Telling stories through music is at the heart of everything the orchestra does,” said Joe. “Working with two artists who are such compelling storytellers in their own right is incredibly exciting. The project also offers a fantastic opportunity to introduce new audiences to the emotional power of live orchestral music.”

The experience will continue after the performance, with audiences invited to enjoy a drink from the bar before watching a short film exploring how the collaboration came together. A guided Q&A with the artists and members of the orchestra will then offer further insight into the creative process behind the project.

Produced by PH Production Services, which runs the Honey Box music programme, Hive Classics promises to blend the scale and power of orchestral music with the intimacy of local songwriting in the atmospheric surroundings of St Giles’ Church.

Tickets are on sale now via Honey Box's social media channels, with early bird tickets available from £14.
