The original 1964 Broadway production won nine Tony Awards and held the record for the longest running musical for nearly ten years, until it was surpassed by Grease. 

Tevye, a milkman in the village of Anatevka in 1905 Imperial Russia, attempts to maintain his Jewish religious and cultural traditions as outside influences encroach on his family's lives. His strong-willed daughters wish to marry for love, while Tevye has his own ideas.
