The National Theatre’s multi award-winning production of An Inspector Calls is set to return to the Midlands in 2028, with performances scheduled at both Wolverhampton Grand Theatre and The Alexandra, Birmingham.

Following a hugely successful tour in 2024/25, director Stephen Daldry’s acclaimed production of JB Priestley’s classic thriller will visit The Alexandra in Birmingham from Tuesday 8 to Saturday 12 February 2028, before heading to Wolverhampton Grand Theatre from Tuesday 9 to Saturday 13 May 2028.

When Inspector Goole arrives unexpectedly at the prosperous Birling family home, their peaceful dinner party is shattered by his investigation into the death of a young woman. As startling revelations come to light, the family’s comfortable existence is thrown into turmoil, forcing them to confront their actions and question their consciences.

First staged at the National Theatre in 1992, Daldry’s production has won 19 major awards, including four Tony Awards and three Olivier Awards, and has been seen by more than six million theatregoers worldwide. Its powerful themes of social responsibility and collective accountability continue to resonate with audiences, making the production as relevant today as ever.

Director Stephen Daldry said: “When we first created An Inspector Calls at the National Theatre in 1992, none of us could have imagined that we would still be touring the production 35 years later. It's extraordinary that Priestley's play continues to resonate so strongly with audiences, and perhaps more importantly, that its message remains as relevant today as ever. I'm delighted that a new generation of audiences will have the opportunity to experience it on this latest tour.”

Daldry is an award-winning theatre, film and television director and producer whose work spans London’s West End and Broadway. His film credits have received major industry award nominations, while his television work includes producing and directing The Crown, which won 16 Emmy and Golden Globe Awards. He also produced the opening and closing ceremonies for the London 2012 Olympic Games and is chairman of refugee arts charity Good Chance.

An Inspector Calls shows at The Alexandra, Birmingham from Tuesday 8 to Saturday 12 February 2028, and Wolverhampton Grand Theatre from Tuesday 9 to Saturday 13 May 2028.
