A fun-filled summer for all is being promised at one of Coventry’s most historic and welcoming landmarks, as it rolls out a packed programme of hands-on activities.
St Mary’s Guildhall - a finalist in the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2025 - will host a variety of events designed to inspire and entertain young minds, from Shakespearean drama workshops and musical storytelling to the rare chance to handle birds of prey in the medieval heart of the city.
The 14th century attraction’s Summer Falconry sessions return on selected dates from Thursday 24 July to Wednesday 27 August, offering families the opportunity to meet a range of majestic birds of prey including owls, kestrels and peregrine falcons.
The experience includes an expert-led demonstration and the chance to handle and photograph the birds up close in the guildhall’s grand surroundings. Tickets cost £12.50 per person and sessions run at 10am, 11.30am, 1.30pm and 3pm. Pre-booking is essential.
Budding performers can take centre stage in the stunning Great Hall in a one-day Midsummer Night’s Dream Performance Workshop, led by Aunty Jen Productions.
Held onFriday 22 & Saturday 23 August and suitable for ages 6 to 14, the sessions include singing, dancing and acting based on Shakespeare’s classic comedy, with a live performance starring the children for family and friends at the end of the day. The workshop costs £20 per child and includes two audience tickets for the show.
The family-friendly venue will also be running Summertime Storytime throughout the summer holidays from Friday 23 July to Sunday 31 August. Children can follow an arts trail around the guildhall, join seasonal craft activities and puppet-making, and enjoy Sunday storytelling sessions with music and soundscaping. Plus younger children can follow the elephant activity trail based on the venue's mascot Bailey.
The No Ordinary Hospitality venue has become a must-visit destination for families and history enthusiasts alike following a major renovation completed in 2022, the addition of a new management team, and the launch of an extensive programme of events. Made possible via funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund thanks to National Lottery players.
