The home of Shakespeare’s mother will play host again to family-friendly activity days that will help little thespians explore some of his most famous plays throughout the school holidays.

Mary Arden’s Farm, which is conserved and maintained by The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, will be the setting of raucous celebrations, stormy seas and magic aplenty as the 16th-century farm welcomes families to its ever-popular Family Fun at the Farm events, that this year focus on celebrating the enduring legacy of Shakespeare’s First Folio.

The team at Mary Arden’s will be focusing their events on the 400th anniversary of the First Folio, with each school holiday event focusing on a play found within the pages of this important book.

Starting in May half-term there will be a springtime celebration, where families will have the chance to explore ‘As You Like It’ a love story set in the Forest of Arden. Little Shakepearians will have the opportunity to discover the wonder of nature, get hands on making flower crowns and other crafting activities before finishing the day with traditional maypole dancing.

During the long summer days, Family Fun at the Farm will shift focus to Shakespeare’s stormy play ‘The Tempest’. Families will take part in magic-infused drama workshops, turn their hands to crafting a staff for Prospero and explore Mary Arden’s Farm with a magical treasure hunt.

Then, as the nights draw in and the witching season approaches Mary Arden’s Farm is transformed for October-Half Term into a spooktacular home of Halloween with pumpkin carving, potion making and Tudor superstitions, all inspired by Shakespeare’s Scottish play.

Family Fun at the Farm starts on Thursday 30 and Friday 31 May, then select dates throughout the school holidays. Tickets are priced at from £15 for children and £7 for adults. All children must be accompanied by at least one adult. For more information and to book visit shakespeare.org.uk.
