The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has released full details of its October Half Term 2024 activity in Stratford-upon-Avon which invites families and young people to take part in a week of ghoulish fun and theatrical magic.
Escape Room
Throughout the week families will have the chance to get creative and make props for the first ever RSC inspired escape room ahead of Friday, when everyone will be welcome to come along and to try and solve the clues and escape the room.
Halloween Activities
Visitors to the RSC can discover secrets behind gruesome stage effects in an interactive family demonstration as well as evenings of spooky storytelling and stage combat demonstrations at twilight.
Puppetry
Both adults and children can enjoy uncovering the art of puppetry in a workshop highlighting the craft which brings monsters, fairies and more to life.
Family Storytelling: Macbeth
With multiple sessions throughout the week, families can dive into the world of Macbeth with an actor-led storytelling session, combining play, acting technique and fun.
Workshops for Young People
Throughout the week there are workshops designed for young actors, writers and swordfighters for ages 8-11, 11-14 and 14-18. All participants are also welcomed back at the end of the week to showcase their new skills. The workshops feature text from Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet as well as specific stage combat classes.
The Red Shoes
The activities come ahead of the Hans Christian Anderson classic, The Red Shoes, at the Swan Theatre, from 7 November to 19 January. Adapted by Nancy Harris and directed by Kimberley Rampersad, this family show brings the dark fairy tale into the 21st century in the intimate surroundings of the Swan Theatre. Age guidance: 7+ Parental discretion recommended for under 12s.
