A village pub in south Warwickshire is opening up its gardens to bargain hunters for the first time with the launch of its monthly Makers Markets.

The Fleur de Lys pub (B95 5HJ) in Lowsonford has teamed up with The Market UK to host three artisan shopping events on the first Saturday of the month in May, June and July.

The markets, which run between 12 - 4pm, support the pub’s pledge to give ongoing support to independent businesses in the area.

The Fleur de Lys sits on the banks of the Stratford Canal, between winding country roads that used to be part of the Forest of Arden. Its one-acre gardens were a big factor in the pub being named among The Top 100 Restaurants for Outdoor Dining by OpenTable recently.

Co-owner Emma Woodhouse said: “There’s such a big, beautiful outdoor space here at the Fleur De Lys that it seems foolish not to put it to good use as often as possible, which is why we’re so delighted that Market UK has seen the potential to bring their unique brand of makers markets out here to sleepy Lowsonford.

“Championing local independent businesses is one of our favourite things to do, so packing our garden full of the West Midlands and Warwickshire’s finest artisans, makers, creators, alchemists and producers is really exciting.

“If you haven’t explored this gorgeous corner of countryside before, we’ve got everything you need to make a day of it, with a wholesome walk along the canal before you begin shopping at the market and of course there’s plenty of award-winning pies and refreshments after you’ve met some of the finest makers in the county.”

The events are being brought to The Fleur by The Market UK, established by Emma Gillett in 2024, building on her previous experience of co-running Shop Small Leam.

Emma said: “Our events are carefully curated to champion independent businesses, while also collaborating with local artists and charities to support and celebrate the communities in which they take place.

“Small businesses are more than work - they’re a community and a family. When we support one another and combine our skills, talents and creativity, we grow stronger together. That’s why working with a family-run venue felt like the perfect fit for our latest events.”
