Pinocchio comes to Birmingham's Old Joint Stock

Birmingham’s Old Joint Stock Theatre has announced that its first-ever family Christmas show will be ‘a heartwarming and magical musical reimagining of the beloved tale of Pinocchio’.

Written by Holly Mallett, best known as Moxy in the hit CBBC show Andy and the Band, this new adaptation promises festive fun, rich storytelling, and a production brimming with music and magic. Maullett’s musical theatre credentials are fast gaining recognition: her first show, Medusa’s First Kiss — a queer, punk-rock, teen reimagining of the Greek myth — was co-written with P Burton-Morgan and enjoyed a 10-week run at London’s Little Angel Theatre. Her second musical, The PEA & the Princess, a playful twist on the classic fairy tale has completed and London/International Run. Now, she brings her unique voice to Pinocchio, created especially for the Old Joint Stock Theatre.

The magical and curious puppet Pinocchio wants to be a real boy, following him on his journey as he navigates his way through wondrous and treacherous landscapes, encountering a whole host of weird and wonderful characters along the way, all the while accompanied by a particularly curious cricket.

The production shows at the city-centre venue from Thursday 18 to Tuesday 30 December.
