Coventry’s historic attractions are coming together to host a volunteer open day. The Coventry Heritage Volunteer Fair will take place on Saturday 3 October from 11am to 2pm on the Mezzanine level at Coventry Transport Museum.

• A range of venues including St Mary’s Guildhall,  Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Coventry Transport Museum and Lunt Roman Fort, will have roles available
• Visitors can drop in to the fair at any time to meet staff and volunteers and talk through what a role could look like for them
• Coventry Heritage Volunteer Fair will take place from 11am to 2pm on the Mezzanine level at Coventry Transport Museum

Taking part are St Mary’s Guildhall, operated by No Ordinary Hospitality, Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Coventry Transport Museum, Lunt Roman Fort, as well as Coventry Cathedral, Historic Coventry Trust, the Spon End Buildings Preservation Trust at The Weavers House and Coventry Charterhouse.

Volunteer roles on offer range from helping staff to welcome visitors and share the stories behind the sites, to outdoor-based work and office-based support.

Visitors can drop in to the fair at any time to meet staff and volunteers and talk through what a role could look like for them, with no need to book.

Abi Moore, Heritage and Venues Manager at St Mary’s Guildhall, said: “Volunteers have always played a huge part in bringing heritage venues to life, and this initiative is about opening our doors to more people who would like to be part of that.

“Volunteering also offers the chance to learn new skills, meet others who share an interest in the city and gain experience that could lead to a career in heritage. Every venue has its own story to tell, and between us there’s a role to suit almost anyone.

“We each have fantastic volunteers working with us already, including some who have been with us for many years because they find it so enjoyable and rewarding.”

Niamh Carton, Programming and Partnerships Manager at the National Trust’s Coventry Charterhouse, said: “Coventry has a remarkable range of heritage, from a Roman fort to medieval halls, and volunteers are at the heart of how each of these sites shares its story.

“This event will show people the full range of opportunities on their doorstep and help them find the place that means the most to them. Whether you can give a few hours a month or more, we’d love to meet you.”
