Chesterton Windmill

Chesterton Windmill Days Out
  • About
  • Location & Contact

Grade I listed stone windmill dating from 1632-3. Originally commissioned by local landowner Sir Edward Petyo, this striking South Warwickshire landmark is built on a circular arcade with six columns linked by semi-circular arches.

The mill machinery is set on two floors inside the stone tower – the lower houses the two pairs of millstones and the upper the actual driving mechanism. The sails have a 60 foot span and carry 450 square feet of canvas.

The mill was in use until 1910, when its machinery ceased to work. Restored between 1965 and 1971, it is now in the care of Warwickshire County Council, and is opened to the public on an occasional basis by the Warwickshire Museum Service.
