We Do Tennis, the long‑term partner of Telford & Wrekin Council’s Leisure Service, has submitted a planning application to create new covered outdoor padel courts at Telford Tennis Centre, marking a key milestone in bringing one of Europe’s fastest‑growing sports to the Borough.
The application progresses the ambitions set out in last year’s partnership announcement, which included major investment plans by We Do Tennis to introduce padel to the centre as part of a wider programme of facility improvements and participation growth.
We Do Tennis has a strong track record of growing participation at Telford Tennis Centre and across the Borough, including outreach in schools, parks and community settings. The introduction of padel forms a significant part of their future plans and will help broaden the centre’s appeal to new and existing players of all ages.
If approved, the development will include:
- 2 new covered doubles courts and 1 un-covered singles padel court, providing year‑round play
- Supporting facilities, including space for retail, viewing area, changing rooms and a café offer
- Improved outdoor areas, designed to enhance accessibility and user experience
Padel continues to surge in popularity across Europe thanks to its sociable, fast‑paced and accessible style of play. Bringing this growing sport to Telford will provide new opportunities for both existing court users and people trying racket sports for the first time.
