Families are invited to take part in a brand new, half-term experience at Coventry Charterhouse, as the National Trust collaborates with adventure play specialists Woodland Tribe to encourage creativity, teamwork and hands-on play for children.

From Wednesday 29 October to Sunday 2 November, children can help build a Moomin-inspired play boat using real tools, including hammers, saws and nails, as part of the Moomins’ 80th anniversary celebrations.

Alongside the build, families can enjoy themed crafts, and additional creative workshops led by Afghan artist Nabil Amini from Thursday onwards. This activity is about more than building a boat. Woodland Tribe’s ethos gives children the freedom to take the lead, make decisions and work together to bring their ideas to life. It’s a chance for them to gain confidence, learn new skills and experience the satisfaction of creating something with their own hands.

Hosting this event at the Charterhouse highlights the site’s role as a place for everyone in the heart of Coventry. Once home to Carthusian monks and later a grand Victorian residence, today the Charterhouse is managed by the National Trust as a welcoming space for the whole community, offering history, nature and a sense of belonging right on the city’s doorstep.

The Build a Boat Adventure Play sessions are included with normal admission to Coventry Charterhouse, with free entry for National Trust members. Book here.
