After a long working relationship between two museums with a music focus, a coach of Coventry fans will travel to London's Eel Pie Island Museum.
Many years ago, Eel Pie Island Museum founder and curator Michele Whitby and her team took a trip to the Coventry Music Museum in the 2-Tone Village. Michele had originally the idea of creating a pop-up exhibition in Twickenham that celebrated the rich history of the area, a history that included performances by such names as The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Yardbirds and even Warwickshire’s own Edgar Broughton Band.
She came to the museum to look for ideas and went back full of inspiration. The pop-up exhibition was created - and eventually a wonderful museum was established. Since then, there has been a bond between the two attractions.
Thanks to Coventry Music Museum's volunteer Lila Shergold, a coach trip of 48 people will travel from the 2-Tone Village on Wednesday 13 August to visit the London museum, includeing a walking tour of the island.
Pete Chambers BEM Director Curator of the Coventry Music Museum said of the trip, “There has always been a wonderful synergy between the two museums. Although Eel Pie has a history beyond just music, it’s the music histories that bring us together and being able to exchange ideas - 'talking shop' as it were - is very important, as museums like us are very rare in the UK. Thanks to our Volunteer Lila we all finally get to all meet up”
