Over the weekend of Saturady 14 - Sunday 15 June, Avoncroft Museum has partnered with Wychavon Oil Engine Preservation Society and the Bromsgrove Society of Model Engineers to offer a spectacular weekend of machines and classic heritage transport of all kinds.
Members of the Wychavon Oil Engine Preservation Society will be displaying and demonstrating a number of steam and oil engines, traction engines, classic cars and motorbikes, model boats, steam cars, steam rollers and tractors. Avoncroft’s classic 1946 Field Marshall tractor will also be on duty and powering the museums iconic 19th racksaw. Over the weekend there will also be demonstrations of milling flour using the Lister mill, have-a-go blacksmith sessions in the Nailmaker’s Forge and brickmaking using Avoncroft’s mini brick making machine.
Impressive traction engines will be roaming the 19-acre site, evoking the transport and working engines from days gone by. The Bromsgrove Society of Model Engineers will be offering rides on the model railway on both the Saturday and Sunday.
Outside the Mission Church there will be members of the GI 44-45 Living History group setting up as US soldiers during their summer training of 1941 known as the ‘Louisiana Manoeuvres”.
In the museum’s tearooms a special Father’s Day ploughman’s lunch will be available as well as local bottled beers and homemade cakes. The museum are also firing up the barbecue and offering Burgers and Sausages, and visitors can buy their Dads toffees or humbugs from the Traditional Sweet Shop that will be set up in the Counting House.
On the Saturday the National Town Criers Guild will be holding their annual competition on site, so you will have the chance to see and hear Town Criers from across the UK competing for the Championship.
The Museum will be open from 10am to 4pm on both Saturday 14 June and Sunday 15 June. Tickets are available on the door, but booking tickets via the website is advised to avoid disappointment as the weekend is expected to be busy.
