Then, enjoy an evening of brand-new comedy when The Rep’s ground-breaking project for the LGBTQ+ community, LGBTQTeeHee! returns in 2025 with a comedy festival on Friday 21 November.
Hosted by renowned comedian Angie Belcher, participants from the LGBTQTeeHee! project will share new material created during the 10-week project, as well as opening and headline acts to be announced soon.
There will also be a free comedy masterclass next month on Saturday 16 August for anyone interested in taking part in the project, a great opportunity to give stand-up a try and put their comedy chops to the test.
Ahead of his inaugural season announcement later this year, The Rep’s new Artistic Director Joe Murphy will be hosting a number of Town Hall events, where Joe will share his artistic vision for the next chapter in The Rep’s story.
Taking place in The Door on Wednesday 10, 17, 24 September and online on Wednesday 1 October, these open conversation events will provide opportunity for attendees to share their ideas, viewpoints, and insights and help inform the future of The Rep.
These free events are open to all, but each one will have its own focus. The event on Wed 1 Oct is an online event open to anyone who was unable to attend in person.
The Rep bring theatre to the big screen, with three must-see National Theatre Live productions coming to The Studio.
Five-time Olivier Award-winner Imelda Staunton (The Crown) joins forces with her real-life daughter Bessie Carter (Bridgerton) for the very first time, playing mother and daughter in Bernard Shaw’s incendiary moral classic, Mrs. Warren’s Profession on Monday 17 November.
Vivie Warren is a woman ahead of her time. Her mother, however, is a product of that old patriarchal order. Exploiting it has earned Mrs. Warren a fortune – but at what cost in this exploration of the clash between morality and independence, traditions and progress.
This is followed by the critically acclaimed and subversively funny new play The Fifth Step on Saturday 14 February starring Olivier Award-winner Jack Lowden (Slow Horses, Dunkirk) and Emmy and BAFTA-winner Martin Freeman (The Responder, Sherlock).
After years in the 12-step programme of Alcoholics Anonymous, James becomes a sponsor to newcomer Luka. The pair bond over black coffee, trade stories and build a fragile friendship out of their shared experiences. But as Luka approaches step five – the moment of confession – dangerous truths emerge, threatening the trust on which both of their recoveries depend.
Bringing the triple-bill to a close is a fearless and contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare’s infamous tragedy, Hamlet on Friday 27 March starring Olivier Award-winner Hiran Abeysekera (Life of Pi) in the title role.
Trapped between duty and doubt, surrounded by power and privilege, young Prince Hamlet dares to ask the ultimate question – you know the one. National Theatre Deputy Artistic Director, Robert Hastie (Standing at the Sky’s Edge, Operation Mincemeat) directs this sharp, stylish and darkly funny reimagining.
Also in The Studio, award-winning choreographer Jaivant Patel brings his ground-breaking new work ASTITVA meaning existence, to The Rep stage on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 November.
This powerful and evocative dance production offers a rare and moving portrayal of British Indian gay men and brings queer South Asian stories to the forefront, inviting audiences to connect, reflect, and celebrate the beauty of being human.
