Medieval merriment takes over, with fun for all ages - from the middle-ages!

Worcester Cathedral will step back in time this Summer, from Wednesday 13 - Saturday 16 August. Families and visitors, young and young-at-heart, can enjoy a whole host of Medieval themed festivity.

Many of the activities on offer during MedievalFest Week are free of charge, however some are chargeable and require pre-booking to secure a place.

Thursday 14 August 

10am - 10pm 

Medieval Fest Market  

College Yard 

A small marketplace including food & drinks stalls, local crafts people, free and paid for activities including axe throwing, archery and more. Food and drink available until 10pm.

10am - 5pm 

Dragon Trail 

Worcester Cathedral 

A dragon is loose in the Cathedral - go on a journey to find him. 

£1 for the trail plus small prizes at the end.  

10am - 12.30pm 

Family Craft Activities  

Cathedral Nave  

Drop in family focused craft activities for budding Knights and Royalty. Donations welcome.

Marvellous Monks 

Cathedral Chapter House & Cloister 

Meet the “marvellous monks”, try some hands-on activities and join a Chapter House Meeting at 2pm and 3pm!

Story time for toddlers

Come and join in the fun with a Medieval themed story time for toddlers followed by a craft activity. Donations welcome.

Art Workshop 

Worcester Cathedral - Undercroft 

This workshop, which includes a visit to Worcester Cathedral's Medieval Library, will explore the pages of medieval Books of Hours, containing beautiful wide borders rich with flowers. 

This event is most suitable for students with some previous artistic experience and also beginners who enjoy drawing and painting.

Medieval Tower on the Hour

Tower 

Climb the 235 steps of the Medieval Tower built in 1374 and take in the fantastic views of Worcestershire. 

£10 adults, £5 U18s. Available online or pay on the day.

Explore the life of King John and his relationship with the Cathedral.

Glorious Gothic and Gold

Calligraphy Workshop 

Worcester Cathedral - Undercroft 

This workshop includes a visit to Worcester Cathedral's Medieval Library. The capital letterforms of the Gothic style are ornate, decorative and fun to make. The session will begin with learning how to make these beautiful letters using pencils and traditional calligraphic pens.

Ladies of Magna Carta Talk

Old Palace Great Hall 

Join author Sharon Bennett Connolly as she explores the women involved with the issuing of the Magna Carta. Learn about Matilda de Braose, Nichola de la Haye and Isabel d’Aubigny. £10 - available online

Witchcraft and Religion in Elizabethan England

Worcester Cathedral - Undercroft 

In the late sixteenth century, Christian writers in England expressed widely divergent views on the subject. In this talk, Prof Darren Oldridge reflects on some classic works of Elizabethan demonology held in the cathedral library. There is the opportunity to see the Medieval Library with a ‘Talk+ Tour’ ticket.

Be inspired by Worcester Cathedral's exquisite floor tiles, which date from the Medieval period right through to the Victorian restoration. Then join the folks from the Museum of Royal Worcester for the opportunity to design and create your very own tile which you can take home with you.

Matthew Champion leads a talk about the largely unrecorded inscriptions on England’s Churches, which deal with matters of faith, of commerce, and of life and death. 

After the talk there will be an opportunity to explore Worcester Cathedral's Graffiti, with Dr Ros Gammie.

Medieval Music Recital

An unforgettable afternoon of medieval music from the Love Songs of the Troubadours to sacred compositions, with Marco Cannavò and Ricardo De Noronha.
