Construction is progressing on a new pump track and skate park in Droitwich Spa as part of a £600,000 investment aimed at creating more opportunities for residents to get active and enjoy outdoor recreation.

The new facilities are being built next to Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre and are expected to open in October.

Designed by award-winning cycle facility specialists ON TRACK, the pump track will feature a series of rolling humps, berms and banked turns, creating a continuous circuit suitable for riders of all ages and abilities. The track has been created specifically for Droitwich Spa and is designed to provide an engaging challenge for cyclists, scooter riders and BMX enthusiasts.

Alongside it, Maverick Skateparks is delivering a modern street-style skate park featuring a mix of banks, transitions, ledges and halfpipes. The facility will cater for skateboarders, BMX riders, scooter users and inline skaters, providing a versatile space for wheeled sports.

The project is being overseen by Dragon Play & Sports, a company with more than three decades of experience in developing community play and sports facilities.

Earlier this week, local residents and campaigners Alex Pedlow and Martin Maycroft were invited to tour the site alongside Councillor Richard Morris to see the latest construction progress. The pair played a key role in championing the creation of the pump track and have been involved in efforts to bring the project to fruition.

Alex Pedlow said it was rewarding to see work underway after years of campaigning, adding that the facility would be a fantastic asset for the town and particularly beneficial for young people.

Councillor Richard Morris, Leader of Wychavon District Council and Executive Board Member for Economic Growth and Tourism, said the new facilities reflected what local residents had asked for and would provide a welcoming space for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy being active.

The project forms part of a wider multi-million-pound programme of investment in leisure and wellbeing across Droitwich Spa, which also includes improvements to the leisure centre, the transformation of Droitwich Spa Lido and the development of a new health corridor.
