With a programme that includes classic literature adaptations, mastery of suspense, timeless comedy-drama and, of course, Worcester's beloved Panto - this autumn, head down to The Swan Theatre, with shows to suit all tastes. Read on to discover a few highlights of the programme...
In October, Worcester Repertory Company presents George Bernard Shaw’s timeless comedy-drama, Pygmalion- a play which proved so popular that it was adapted to become the classic musical My Fair Lady. Shaw's play takes a close look at gender stereotypes, social mobility and the British class system and is as relevant today as when it was written in 1912.
Later in the month, enjoy another classic which found fame on the silver screen, The Birds, in an intense adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's short story by Conor McPherson. The apocalyptic tale was made into an iconic Hitchcock film - don't miss the chance to experience the sinister thriller live on stage.
In November, Charlotte Bronte's gothic romance Jane Eyre is thrillingly brought to life in a new staging by Conn Artists Theatre Company, following on from their recent adaptation of Far from the Madding Crowd, and performed with an ensemble cast of five actors with original music and songs.
Finally, kicking off on Saturday 28 November, Worcester’s favourite pantomime is back with a show that is right on target… Robin Hood! Expect swashbuckling hijinks all round as the nation's favourite outlaw, Robin Hood (and his merry men) set out to save Maid Marian from the Sheriff of Nottingham’s tyranny!
