Worcester’s popular visitor attraction The Commandery is offering members of the general public a unique opportunity to view a rare Fabergé sculpture on Sunday 9 November.
Gifted to The Queen’s Own Worcestershire Hussars in 1904, The Pear Blossom will be on display for one day only, as part of the city’s Armistice commemorations.
The gold, diamond and jade jewel is a focal point for the members of the Regiment past and present, and has been called the rarest, most poetic manifestation of Faberge’s work.
The jewel is on display for one day only, to raise funds for The Worcestershire Soldier - a project to create a brand-new Worcestershire Soldier exhibition at The Commandery. The Jewel, as it is affectionately known by the Regiment, will have its own special guard from B (S, WWY) Sqn. The Royal Yeomanry and 54th (QOWWY) Sqn. Royal Signals the successor Squadrons to the Worcestershire Yeomanry.
Worcester City Council will be donating all income from the Special Event admission charge* to the Project.
Visitors can also enjoy a short, free talk about the Faberge Jewel, on the hour from 12pm onwards and there will be an opportunity to view plans for the new Worcestershire Soldier exhibition.
No booking required, just drop in (last entry 3pm). To find out more, visit the venue’s website at museumsworcestershire.org.uk
