Worcester Repertory Company returns to the Swan Theatre this autumn with Pygmalion, George Bernard Shaw’s timeless comedy-drama, first performed in 1912. Exploring gender stereotypes, social mobility and the British class system, this new production is directed by Suzi Budd and brings together performers from The Worcester REP, Young REP and People’s REP. The production runs from Wednesday 14 October to Friday 16 October at 7.30pm.
The Pygmalion cast includes Charlie Fraser-Swarbrick as Eliza Doolittle, Rob Holman as Professor Henry Higgins, George Ormerod as Colonel Pickering and Katherine Parker-Jones as Mrs Higgins. Along with Young REP and People’s REP members including Harrison Courtney as Freddy Hill, Chris Burrows as Alfred Doolittle, Quinn Cross as Mrs Eynsford Hill, Nil Betik as Mrs Pearce, and Molly Branchett as Clara Eynsford Hill.
George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion follows Eliza Doolittle who is a poor flower girl who dreams of one day working in a flower shop. After a chance encounter with phonetic professor Henry Higgins, she becomes the subject of a wager: Can a cockney flower girl be transformed into a prim and proper lady, suitable for high society? Taken into Henry’s home, Eliza must be resilient as she is taken through rigorous and often humiliating training. As she is launched into the world of the upper class, she must learn to navigate high society and questions where she really fits in.
Ticket prices start at £9.00 for under-25s and £16.00 for adults. The Pygmalion production runs from Wednesday 14 October to Friday 16 October at 7.30pm. The 3-day production also includes a British Sign Language (BSL) signed performance, with a live interpreter which will be taking place on Thursday 15 October at 7.30pm.
