Opening in 1834, the Grade I listed Town Hall is one of the oldest concert halls in the world. Its illustrious history has seen it play host to numerous legendary rock and pop bands - including The Beatles and Led Zeppelin - and political figures from Joseph Chamberlain to Margaret Thatcher. A further claim to fame is that Charles Dickens gave his first public reading of A Christmas Carol at the venue. Town Hall also hosted the premieres of Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Elgar’s The Dream Of Gerontius.
